The recent history of the WTA tournament winners consists of exactly one name: Aryna Sabalenka , who won the titles in Ostrava, Linz and at the beginning of the 2021 season in Abu Dhabi. The last big prize, however, went to Iga Swiatek. The Polish stormed to her first major triumph in Roland Garros - without losing a set. After that, Swiatek, like an astonishing number of other players, did not show himself again. In an interview with the WTA website a few days ago, she gave information about why.

Iga Swiatek on ...

... her long break after winning the French Open:

“It took me so much time because my life has completely changed. I had a lot more commitments with the media and on the business side. Even two months after the French Open, it was still different. When I came here (to Spain for training, editor's note), it was much easier for me to concentrate on training. I have a different attitude when I'm not in my hometown. It seems like I'm much more efficient when I'm outside Warsaw. "

... about your comfort zone:

“The two weeks after the French Open were crazy. But later, when we started training again, at first I thought that it would be difficult because of my fatigue. In truth, however, I went back to my basics on the pitch, back to where I know my stuff and what I've been doing for so long. It was great. I could see that this is my place where I feel safe, good and confident. "

... about your goals for 2021:

“They are almost the same. That's good because the process hasn't changed. I have to do everything as usual, and I feel good in this sphere. In the back of my mind I know I have bigger sponsors and commitments, so this will be new. "
