Roger Federer is likely to return to the tour at the Australian Open

"It currently looks like I'll be able to make my comeback at the Australian Open in January," Roger Federer revealed in an interview with Schweizer Illustrierte less than a month ago. A message that probably put a smile on the face of the maestro's fans.

And for the fans of the 20-time Grand Slam winner, there is still reason to be in a good mood: According to a media report by Punto de Break , the Swiss trained in an indoor hall at the weekend, which has the same surface as the Australian Open .

Good memories of 2017

Federer had played his last match to date in the Melbourne semi-finals against Novak Djokovic. Then the 39-year-old had to undergo knee surgery, which subsequently forced him to end the season.

Federer had already taken a similarly long injury break in 2016. After that, the Swiss also returned to the Australian Open - and achieved what is probably the most emotional tournament victory of his career. It will be interesting to see whether the long-standing world number one will make a comeback similar to that of four years ago in the coming season.
