Generali Austrian Pro Series, Day 1: Thiem confident, Melzer successful after thriller

The first four matches of the Generali Austrian Pro Series have been completed: While Dominic Thiem prevailed against Lucas Miedler in Group A, Jürgen Melzer's scarce success against Jurij Rodionov came as a surprise. After two days in which the rain had made it impossible to hold the matches at the Generali Austrian Pro Series, Wednesday finally got down to business. And Lenny Hampel was in a hurry in the opening game against Marko Andrejic, winning 6-2 and 6-1. Then Jürgen Melzer and Jurij Rodionov fought a duel like a roller coaster ride: the veteran started strongly and won the first set 6: 4. Afterwards Rodionov got in better swing, equalized with a 6: 1. And even took the lead in the decision with a break. But Melzer came back and finally won 7: 6 (4).

Dominic Thiem had no problems with Lucas Miedler in the third match of the day. The number three in the world had to give up once in the middle of the second set, but that ultimately no longer played a role in the 6-1 and 6-2. In the last match of the day, Sandro Kopp won in three sets against David Pichler 6-4, 2-6 and 7-5.

On Thursday, the starting shot is fired at 9 a.m. with the encounter between Jurij Rodionov and Lenny Hampel. Jürgen Melzer follows after Marko Andrejic. Dominic Thiem will serve for the second time at 4 p.m. against Sandro Kopp. David Pichler and Lucas Miedler will contest the end of the day. The game Thiem vs Kopp is live on TV at ServusTV, all matches are streamed at tennisnet.com .
