Lukas Neumayer won two games today

Today's big fight day at the Generali Austrian Pro Series began at 10:00 a.m. The starting shot was given by Sandro Kopp and Lukas Neumayer. The 17-year-old Neumayer did not show any nakedness in this duel and was surprisingly clear with 6: 1 and 6: 2.

Dennis Novak, number two of the tournament, was to play his second match of the second round immediately afterwards. Against David Pichler, the Lower Austrian contested the group win, as both had prevailed in the run-up to Philipp Oswald. After Pichler won the first set 6-4, it became really tight in round two: a tie-break had to make the decision. In this Novak played out his routine, secured the big points and managed to equalize the set.

In set three the thread broke completely

In the third set of decisions, however, the thread broke completely at the world ranking 85th, with 0: 6, Novak had to pass three and thus lost the match. The next encounter was also hot when Sebastian Ofner and Max Neuchrist faced each other. An eye-to-eye encounter developed, so unsurprisingly a tie-break had to make the decision. Until 13:13, no player wanted to decide this for himself. And so it was the favorite Ofner who was able to set the needle and won the contested set one.

This did not detract from Neuchrist's resistance, the Viennese continued to fight, forcing a tie-break as in the first sentence. In this it was again Sebastian Ofner, who showed the better nerves and was able to get the second set in the short decision with 7: 3.

Now it was time for a particularly interesting encounter, time for another generation duel at the Generali Austrian Pro Series. Because late in the afternoon Lukas Neumayer was on the pitch for the second time that day, it got to do with Jürgen Melzer. In this duel, the group victory was also made out in the second round.

Neumayer with another talent test

A lively exchange of blows developed in which Melzer initially had some headwaters. The double specialist consequently secured round one with 6: 4. But Lukas Neumayer was in an excellent game mood that day and so the 17-year-old was able to equalize 6: 3. And Neumayer also had a somewhat stronger effect in the decision set, after a number of chances to break the young man secured the important break. But then the nerves of the youngster fluttered, at the score of 5: 4 Neumayer was already serving on the match win, but gave Melzer the rebreak after two double mistakes. But Neumayer should get another chance, the 17-year-old got another break directly. And this time the nerves stayed - Lukas Neumayer also won set three and secured the group victory.

Philipp Oswald and Alexander Erler met in the last game of the day, the two contested a placement game from the first phase of the Generali Austrian Pro Series. The first set was a very competitive one, a tie break had to make the decision. In this double specialist Oswald got off to a better start and pulled away quickly, the veteran secured the first round for one. In the second set everything was open for just as long, no player wanted to break early. Then it was Philipp Oswald who secured the ninth game of the second set and served a few moments to win 7: 6 (1) and 6: 4.
