After rain and hail on Wednesday prevented matches from taking place in the federal performance center in Südstadt, the game started on Thursday at 9 a.m. And in the first game of the day, Sebastian Ofner won 6: 3 and 6: 2 in a placement game against youngster Lukas Neumayer.

After that, however, much more was at stake: In the second group phase, only twelve players are represented in four groups of three at the Generali Austrian Pro Series, only the best two qualify for the final tournament, which is played according to the mode of the ATP Finals. Every win, every set win counts all the more. And Lenny Hampel took a step towards the final round with his 7-5 and 6-1 against Jurij Rodionov. Especially since the third player in Group A with Dominic Thiem will probably not be beat.

In the third match of the day, Dennis Novak initially had some problems with double specialist Philipp Oswald, but finally won 4: 6, 6: 3 and 6: 2. And legend Jürgen Melzer was also able to look forward to success: The 38-year-old left-hander fought a balanced fight with Sandro Kopp for two sets - and finally found another gear in the end. Melzer won 7: 5, 5: 7 and 6: 0. The third man in Group B is Lukas Neumayer - so Melzer looks very good in terms of the final qualification.
