Can Filip Misolic go one step further today?

If everything goes according to plan in Kitzbühel today, the winner of Europe's largest amateur tournament will be determined on the center court after the end of the doubles final. The Generali Race to Kitzbühel then looks for its winner after 13 qualifying tournaments throughout Austria and the final round in the sports capital of the Alps. The mode? From the quarterfinals, a tie-break shoot-out will be played, with points being awarded. That means: The player with a weaker ITN (comparable to the LK in Germany) gets a lead with which he can go into the match tie-break up to ten points.

What the organizers in Kitzbühel didn't know: Immediately afterwards there will be another tie-break shootout. Because Filip Misolic and Yannick Hanfmann have to decide within a few minutes who can play against Roberto Bautista Agut in the final of the Generali Open 2022. And as in the "Race", the one with the lower ranking (Misolic is still on 205, Hanfmann on 140) starts the race with a lead.

Misolic with a narrow lead against Hanfmann

Well, of course that only resulted from the situation when the rain made it impossible for the Austrian surprise man to continue on Friday when the score was 1-0 in the tie-break of the third set. At 9 p.m. the ATP supervisor then raised the red flag. No continuation on Friday, resume on the final day at 1:30 p.m. (live on ServusTV).

Who did this help? Maybe Yannick Hanfmann, who lost a 4:1 lead (with a double break!) in the third act, but then couldn't serve it out at 6:5. The German had completely lost momentum. But maybe also Filip Misolic, who already had to economize badly with his strength in the middle of the match after he had already made a magical comeback against Dusan Lajovic in the morning, but also a three-set match.

However, there is one difference to the amateurs: Hanfmann and Misolic have to get going faster. Because on the ATP tour, the decisive tie-break is only played up to seven.
