Filip Misolic's journey at the Generali Open 2022 in Kitzbühel was exciting, entertaining and carried the spectators along. In the final of the traditional ATP Tour 250 tournament, however, it wasn't quite enough for a happy ending. In the end, Roberto Bautista Agut won 6:2 and 6:2 and took home prize money of 81,310 euros.

Misolic started ambitiously, had a breakball in Bautista Agut's first service game. The Spaniard did better moments later to take a 2-1 lead. Misolic created a chance for a comeback in the sixth game, but couldn't take it - and immediately gave up his serve again to make it 2:5. After 49 minutes, the highest-ranked player in the Kitzbühel tableau 2022 had won the first set.

The 20-year-old Misolic had only earned a place in the final a few minutes before the start of the final by winning the continuation of the semi-final that was canceled on Friday against Yannick Hanfmann 6:2, 2:6 and 7:6 (4).

Misolic must pay tribute to the efforts

In the second act on Saturday, Bautista Agut again made it 2-1 with a break, confirming it with a lot of effort. However, it was Misolic's final gasp, paying tribute to the efforts of the past few days. After 92 minutes, the former top ten player used his second match point.

For Roberto Bautista Agut it was the eleventh tournament victory of his career, the second this year after the triumph in Doha. Filip Misolic will make up 80 places in the world rankings with the final in Kitzbühel, his first ever appearance at the ATP Tour level. And as the expected number 135 in the world, he will be the best-ranked Austrian in the rankings from Monday.

The title in doubles went to two players who otherwise celebrate their successes in singles: The Spaniard Pedro Martinez and his Italian partner Lorenzo Sonego defeated the duo Tim Pütz and Michael Venus 5: 7, 6: 4 and 10 :8th.
