That was short, but hopefully not physically painful for Fabio Fognini: The Italian made his comeback on the ATP tour in Kitzbühel after the Corona break, during which he underwent small operations on both ankles. And withstood Swiss qualifier Marc-Andrea Huesler for just 56 minutes. He will play in the quarter-finals on Friday against the next veteran, Feliciano Lopez. The Spaniard prevailed in the left-hander duel with Guido Pella from Argentina with 7: 5, 6: 7 (4) and 7: 6 (3).
As the only seeded player, only Diego Schwartzman remained in the tableau. Last year's Vienna finalist, who was in second place, had a lot of trouble with Sebastian Ofner, but ultimately won 6: 2, 2: 6 and 7: 5. Schwartzman meets Laslo Djere in the round of the last eight, who easily beat Jannik Sinner 6: 4 and 6: 4.
Two Germans will kick off on Friday from 10:30 a.m.: Yannik Hanfmann, who defeated Dusan Lajovic in the second round, will play against his friend Maximilian Marterer, who had no problems with Hubert Hurkacz. The quarter-finals are completed by Dederico Delbonis and Miomir Kecmanovic. The Serb had defeated Kei Nishikori in round one.
