Yannick Hanfmann had made it clear after his quarter-final victory against Maximilian Marterer at the Generali Open 2020: In the difficult conditions in Kitzbühel, qualifiers have an advantage over those players who have fewer matches in their legs. Feliciano Lopez had to make this experience in the quarter-finals, who lost 4-6 and 3-6 in the left-hander duel against the Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler. As a supplementary player, Huesler only slipped into the qualifying tableau, first beating Attila Balasz, then Pranesh Gunneswaran. In the main competition, Huesler had to go into the tie-break of the third against Emil Ruusuvuori in round one, and the win against Fabio Fognini was much easier.

In tomorrow's semifinals, Huesler will either face Miomir Kecmanovic, who was able to defeat Kei Nishikori in three sets at the start. Or veteran Federico Delbonis, another qualifier.

Number two of the tournament had already been eliminated: Diego Schwartzman made more or less big comebacks in both sets against Laslo Djere, but still had to admit defeat 6: 7 (2) and 3: 6. Djere meets Hanfmann in the semifinals, against whom he has never played.
