Philipp Oswald failed in Kitzbühel in the doubles semifinals

Four sets were played in Friday's doubles semi-finals, all four being decided in a tie-break. One of the victims was Philipp Oswald, the last remaining Austrian in the tableau. Oswald fought boldly alongside Robin Haase from the Netherlands, but was defeated by Lorenzo Sonego and Pedro Martinez 6:7 (9) and 6:7 (2).

In the first match on the Küchenmeister court, Tim Pütz and his New Zealand partner Michael Venus defeated the two-time French Open champions Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies, also 7: 6 (6) and 7: 6 (0). Pütz/Venus started the doubles competition in Kitzbühel in first place.

Pütz and Venus are currently in eighth place in the annual ranking, the Race to Turin, so they would qualify for the ATP Finals. But the pressure on the two is great: because the Italians Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolelli, who are behind them, are already in the semi-finals in Umag.
