In addition to Dominic Thiem, whose opening game with the night session on Tuesday, July 26, at 7:30 p.m. has already been decided, there will be a few other young Austrians at the 78th edition of the Generali Open Kitzbühel. Among them are Jurij Rodionov and Filip Misolic, who, thanks to organizer wildcards, are in the squad of the top-ranked main draw grid.

In Kitzbühel, Rodionov has already twice fought his way through qualifying into the first round of the main draw. It will be the first appearance in Kitzbühel for 20-year-old Styrian Misolic: "Jurij is the best Austrian in the ATP ranking, Filip has been in the top 200 in the world since this week. Both Rodionov and Misolic have more than earned the wild card due to their strong performances this year on the Challenger Tour - Rodionov as two-time winner of the season and Misolic with victory and semi-finals -" explains tournament director Alexander Antonitsch.

Neumayer receives a qualifying wildcard

In the once again top fielded qualification - among others the former Kitzbühel finalist Yannick Hanfmann (GER) and semi-finalist Nicolas Jarry (CHI) fight for the entry into the main competition - with a cut of 126 no other Austrian made it on their own. With Lukas Neumayer, however, there is still an Austrian in the squad. The Salzburg State Champion will be given the organiser's qualification wild card. Neumayer caused enthusiasm among the fans at his ATP debut in Kitzbühel last year when he entered the main draw: "Lukas not only played well in Salzburg last week and beat Gilles Simon and Arthur Rinderknech, among others, he has already shown that he feels very comfortable in Kitzbühel. We hope that he can use the wildcard to fight his way into the main draw so convincingly again this year," said the tournament director.

Austrian title defender doubles back at the start

Speaking of inspiring the audience: Last year, this was particularly true of Lucas Miedler and Alexander Erler, who were the first purely Austrian duo to win the title in the doubles competition at the Generali Open Kitzbühel in 70 years. In 2022, however, the two defending champions will face tough competition, including from top German doubles Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies, the two-time Grand Slam champions.
