Generali Open: Massu and Thiem form surprise doubles in Kitzbühel

The starting field of the Generali Open Kitzbühel is enriched by a surprise double: Almost two decades after his first appearance in the Gamsstadt and 15 years after his victory in 2004, Thiem coach Nicolas Massu is making his comeback in the double competition of the Kitzbühel tournament. Provided with a double wildcard from the organizers, the double Olympic champion supports the 19-year-old Moritz Thiem in his first tournament appearance at ATP level: “The idea with the double Massu / Thiem came up during a training session in the southern part of the city . Nicolas was immediately thrilled to play in double with Moritz.
He loves Kitzbühel and has always played well here. In 2003 he was in the final, in 2005 in the semifinals and in 2004 he won the tournament. And it is also a great thing for Moritz to be able to serve alongside an Olympic champion, ”explains tournament director Alexander Antonitsch. For 19-year-old Moritz Thiem, the appearance in the double competition of the Generali Open Kitzbühel is the first match at ATP level: "I can certainly learn a lot from Nicolas." Wolfgang Thiem says: "Nicolas really wants to play tennis, has become very fit again through training with Dominic and is in his best double age at 39."
