The successor to Dominic Thiem as the winner of Kitzbühel has been found: Miomir Kecmanovic, 21 years old, born and living in Belgrade, prevailed 6: 4 and 6: 4 in the final of the Generali Open against Yannick Hanfmann. Not without drama: Even in the very last game, the German had two chances of another rebreak after Hanfmann had made a small comeback at the beginning of the set. After a playing time of 76 minutes, however, Kecmanovic was celebrated as the winner of an ATP tournament for the first time. In 2019 he was already in the final in Antalya.

It was already clear after round one that the Serb, who switched to the IMG Academy in Florida at the age of 13, would be expected at this edition of the traditional tournament in Kitzbühel. Kecmanovic had beaten Kei Nishikori after losing the first set. But the trip to Kitzbühel was also worthwhile for Yannick Hanfmann. The player from TennisBase Oberhaching came as a qualifier and set his best career result when he reached the final. In 2017 Hanfmann reached the final in Gstaad.

The experiment with almost 2,000 spectators per day can be rated as successful in Kitzbühel, the audience adhered to the corona-related guidelines in a disciplined manner. And was also rewarded by the weather gods: The Tyrolean Unterland can be rainy at the beginning of September, but not a single match had to be interrupted for even a minute in the tournament week just ended. Summer conditions also prevailed on the final Sunday.

In the doubles competition Austin Krajicek and Franko Skugor were able to prevail against the top seeded Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos with 7: 6 (5) and 7: 5.
