The lottery ticket holder when qualifying for the ATP 250 event in Kitzbühel did not mean well with the Austrian Alexander Erler. The Tyrolean met number two on the grid, Igor Gerassimov, in the first qualifying round. Although Erler was able to sell dearly, especially in set one, in the end his Belarusian opponent moved 7: 6 (2) and 6: 3 into the next round.
Today's Monday was similarly unsuccessful for Mathias Bachinger. The German had to admit defeat to number four on the Setzlsite, Federico Delponis. Compatriot Dominik Köpfer has already failed, in the all-German duel Köpfer Maximilian Marterer was defeated 7: 6 (1), 3: 6 and 2: 6.
Hanfmann and Rodionov confidently
Yannick Hanfmann, however, is one round further. The winner of the ATP Challenger event from Todi showed no nakedness against Ernests Gulbis and won after a contested opening set with 7: 6 (3) and 6: 1. His Austrian colleague Jurij Rodionov was just as confident. The youngster gave Luke Saville no chance in two sets.
Rodionov said after his victory that the conditions would have been difficult because of the heavy rain. "Because of the rain, the pitch was very deep and slow. Adjusted to the conditions, my game wasn't very good, but it was solid, so I'm happy with my performance," said the 21-year-old.
