Günter Bresnik has not been Dominic Thiem's coach since April. Since then, the star coach has largely been reluctant to make public statements about tennis. In an interview with heute.at , the Viennese broke his silence and shared his insights about today's tour.

In particular, the new generation Bresnik left bad hair: "Zverev is a total failure, Tsitsipas was bad with two majors this year. Shapovalov would be dangerous because he has weapons. But he has not been trained well in recent years." Nick Kyrgios, on the other hand, would have a lot of potential, but the Australian would lack consistency for an entire season.

Thiem and Medvedev impress Bresnik

Bresnik, on the other hand, was taken with US Open finalist and St. Petersburg winner Daniil Medvedev: "Medvedev is smart, has this Russian sense of humor, and moves extremely well." He had already noticed the fourth in the world rankings in Buenos Aires in February, and his protégé Dominic Thiem laughed at him in Argentina.

Technically, he has no weakness.

It is also the Austrian who still sees Bresnik as having the greatest potential. "He has no technical weakness, can play the fastest pace in a controlled manner. Last year he was closer to Nadal in New York than this year Medvedev. Many forget that. But he has to call up his level," said the 58-year-old.

New trainer from Mira Antonitsch

The separation after the long-term collaboration with the Lichtenwörther still concerns Bresnik: "I do not suffer, but I am disappointed. I have to stop worrying about it." In the meantime, the father of four has started a new project: Bresnik is now training Mira Antonitsch.

The 20-year-old currently ranks 654 in the WTA world rankings. Bresnik believes that moving into the top 100 is realistic. He also explains what appeals to him about the new job with the young Austrian: "Mira is good for me as a player, otherwise I wouldn't do anything." At the moment, however, he cannot say whether he will actually help the daughter of ex-tennis player Alexander Antonitsch.
