Ash Barty will be absent from Indian Wells

Ash Barty, number one in the women's tennis world, also had her big hit in 2021. Namely at Wimbledon, where the Australian stormed to the title - and was able to forget the moderate results at the other major events. The third round at the US Open at the end of the Grand Slam season didn't change that much.

Now the early end in Flushing Meadows could have been the Australian's last appearance in the tennis year 2021. As it became known on Monday, Barty will not take part in the Indian Wells WTA 1000 event that starts next Monday - one of the last big highlights of the game year. The world number one felt exhausted due to the enormous density of tournaments, it was reported unanimously.

This makes Barty the next big absentee at the event in California, a few days ago Naomi Osaka had, as expected, canceled for the WTA classic. As with Barty, a Japanese run this calendar year is somewhat unrealistic. At the last edition of the tournament in 2019, Bianca Andreescu triumphed in Indian Wells.
