At least in Indian Wells, the tie-break tens format still lives on. A tournament in which only eight participants start, which begins with the quarter-finals and which is intended to do justice to the fans' short attention spans. In Tennis Paradise, this short event is known as the Eisenhower Cup. And is almost traditionally held on Tuesday evening before the start of the main draw matches.

In contrast to earlier attempts, such as the premiere in Vienna, mixed doubles pairs are currently playing in Indian Wells. And some of them have already been seen working together at the United Cup this year: Hubert Hurkacz and Iga Swiatek, for example. Or Maria Sakkari and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

However, victory went to a duo that the organizers sent into the race as “Team Forehand Fear”: Taylor Fritz and Aryna Sabalenka. Fritz won the singles in Indian Wells last year, and Sabalenka is currently one of the hottest contenders for the title. In the final, Fritz/Sabalenka beat Hurkacz/Swiatek 10:8 and were able to pass on prize money of 200,000 US dollars to a charity of their choice.

This is how the Eisenhower Cup 2023 developed:

Quarterfinals:

Sakkari/Tsitsipas Badosa/Norrie 12:10 p.m
Hurkacz/Swiatek Fernandez/Auger-Aliassime 10:6
Jabeur/Ruud Pegula/Paul 10:5
Fritz/Sabalenka Bencic/Wawrinka 10:4

semifinals

Hurkacz/Swiatek Tsitsipas/Sakkari 10:7
Fritz/Sabalenka Jabeur/Ruud 10:8

final

Fritz/Sabalenka Hurkacz/Swiatek 10:8
