ITF Tour Villach: Sinja Kraus wins the first title of the season at home

The 20-year-old Sinja Kraus won the tournament at the ITF W25 event in Villach with a three-set success over the Pole Weronika Falkowska .

Strong performance by the young Austrian Sinja Kraus at the ITF Tour W25 clay court tournament in the Warmbad district of Villach: The 20-year-old defeated the Polish Weronika Falkowska 7: 5, 3: 6, 6: 4 in the final and thus ensured the first full success in the current season. It is also the first title in a tournament of this magnitude for the Viennese - so far in her career she has had two successes in W15 tournaments (Cairo 2021, Antalya 2018).

The Fed Cup player, seeded seventh in Carinthia, won in the previous rounds against Elena Karner from Austria (6: 3, 6: 4), the Czech Dominika Salkova (4: 6, 6: 3, 6: 3), Victoria Kan from Russia (6:4, 6:1), as well as the sixth-ranked Croatian Lea Boskovic (6:2, 6:2). By winning the tournament, Kraus is about to enter the top 300 in the women's tennis world.

The top seeded Barbara Haas failed in the round of 16 at the Japanese Miharu Imanishi with 4: 6 and 1: 6. For the other local starters Nina Plihal, Tamara Kostic and Melanie Klaffner it was already over at the start.
