In the final, Isner defeated his 19-year-old compatriot Brandon Nakashima 7: 6 (10: 8), 7: 5.

The service giant, who won the longest match in Tour history at Wimbledon in 2010, had previously triumphed in the former Olympic city in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018. In the previous year, the tournament did not take place due to the corona pandemic.

This makes Isner the only active player who has won a tournament at least six times, alongside the Spaniard Nadal, who has won the major in Paris 13 times, the Swiss Roger Federer and industry leader Novak Djokovic (Serbia). Subtle difference: the other three have each won 20 Grand Slam tournaments in their careers, Isner's best result in one of the four majors is the semi-finals at Wimbledon 2018.

For Isner, the Atlanta victory was also noticeable in the ranking: In today's new world rankings , he made up five places and is again number 30.

Isner is the best American in the ATP ranking.
