Prieto, who had won a total of ten titles on the ATP tour as a double, and del Potro had tried it together since 2017, interrupted by longer injuries to the US Open champions from 2009: sometimes it was the wrists that were already damaged, then again the knee. Prieto and del Potro had the greatest joint success in Indian Wells in 2018, when the latter beat Roger Federer in the final.

His last match was played by Juan Martin del Potro in 2019 at Queen's Club in London. There he won in round one against Denis Shapovalov, but was no longer able to play his next game against eventual tournament winner Feliciano Lopez.

"I want to share with you that I have agreed with Sebastian Prieto to end our partnership so that he can work with Juan Londero while I continue my rehabilitation process," del Potro wrote on Twitter. "I am very grateful to Piper for all these years together. He is a great person and an even better person. All the best!"
