The Wimbledon quarter-finalist from Dortmund defeated third-placed local hero Ana Bogdan 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. In the round of 16, Niemeier meets Serbian Olga Danilovic or Kamilla Rakhimova.
Tamara Korpatsch had previously missed the round of 16. The Hamburg native lost to the Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska 3: 6, 6: 4, 5: 7, in the third set she missed a 5: 2 lead and two match balls when the score was 5: 4. Korpatsch had actually already failed in qualifying at the Transylvania Open, but still moved into the main draw as a lucky loser.
