Julia Görges tests new trainer: collaboration with Raemon Sluiter

Julia Görges tests a new trainer a good four months after the separation from Jens Gerlach. As the 31-year-old from Bad Oldesloe confirmed to the Bild newspaper, she is currently working with the Dutchman Raemon Sluiter, who will also accompany her to the invitation tournament in Berlin next week.

"We first agreed on a test phase. You have no security because you don't know when things will really start again," said number 38 in the world rankings. Ex-professional Sluiter has worked with Kiki Bertens, among others. The Dutchwoman will also serve in Berlin, so there will be a direct encounter with Sluiter's ex-protégé.

"We worked together for three days at the beginning of June and have been with him in the Netherlands for ten days now. That is not enough time to be able to give a comprehensive assessment. We want to see how things are going in Berlin and then decide how to proceed . But I like his style. It is very factual and constructive, "said Görges.

Sluiter was an active tennis professional himself and achieved his best ATP ranking in February 2003 with 46th place. He won a total of ten Challenger tournaments and was in four ATP finals. The greatest success in working with Bertens at the French Open 2016 came to the semi-finals. In 2018 she won the Cincinnati Open, in 2019 the Madrid Open.

Görges was last in Qatar before the Corona break, where she failed in the first round due to Maria Sakkari. Görges has won seven WTA tournaments so far and reached the Wimbledon semi-finals in summer 2018. A little later, she made her way into the top 10 of the WTA ranking for the first time in her career.
