But you could also really feel sorry for Kei Nishikori. It's been two years since the Japanese last stepped onto the court for an official match on the ATP tour. Since then, there have been a large number of injuries that have always made it impossible for the former fourth in the world rankings to compete on the ATP tour.

As the Japanese now announced via social media, a comeback to the tennis circus is soon planned in concrete terms. According to this, Nishikori would like to open three Challenger events from the end of May: After appearances in Little Rock and Tyler in the USA, the former top 5 player would then go to Puerto Rico as planned.

Nishikori wants to know again

A few days ago, Nishikori appeared on Twitter and Co while training (on sand), now the comeback plans have apparently become concrete. The last tournament that the Japanese contested dates from April 10, 2021. At that time, 34-year-old Dan Evans had to admit defeat in round two of the ATP Masters 1000 event by Indian Wells.

During his career, Kei Nishikori has won twelve titles on the ATP tour and reached the final of an ATP Masters 1000 event four times. The last entry into the final of this category dates from 2018, Nishikori's last title win was just over four years ago. The 34-year-old currently has no ranking.
