No, the year 2021 was not exactly a lucky year for Kiki Bertens. Plagued by pain in the Achilles tendon, the Dutchwoman was never able to return to her former maximum performance, so the 29-year-old only won two of her nine matches this season.

In June, the former world number four decided to end her career after the 2021 season. As Bertens announced via Instagram, she will hang up the racket earlier than expected: The Olympic Games in Tokyo will be the last tournament of her active career for her.

"I'm proud to end my career with this team. This will be my last tournament. Let's do our best. Tokyo, here we come," wrote Bertens, who won ten titles on the WTA tour in her career. a few days ago.
