Former world number one Kim Clijsters has canceled her participation in the WTA tournaments in Miami and Charleston. As the 37-year-old announced on social media, she still has a training deficit after a knee operation in October and an infection with the corona virus in January.

"Not ready to stop yet"

She will have some treatments for persistent pain in the coming weeks and then discuss how to proceed with her team. "I'm not ready to quit yet," wrote Clijsters, who returned to the tour in February of last year on her second comeback after almost eight years.

The four-time Grand Slam winner, currently number 1055 in the world rankings, last played at the US Open in late summer and failed in the first round. It was one of three appearances by the Belgian in the 2020 calendar year. A year in which Clijsters returned to the WTA tour after a break of a good eight years.

Clijsters has been waiting for her first win since her comeback, both against Garbine Muguruza (in Dubai) and against Johanna Konta (in Acapulco), the former number one in the women's tennis world sold dearly. Clijsters has won four Grand Slam titles in her career.
