Actually, it was already Sunday: Shortly before half past twelve on Sunday morning, Stan Wawrinka converted the match point against Lorenzo Sonego and is thus in the final on the Croatian Adriatic coast. The 38-year-old won 6: 3, 6: 4 against the Italian and now meets Australian Alexei Popyrin in the final, who defeated Sonego's compatriot Matteo Arnaldi in three sets earlier and Wawrinka only just before 11 p.m. on Saturday in sent the Goran Ivanisevic Stadium onto the pitch.

Stan Wawrinka's last title win dates back to 2017 (in singles - in doubles Stanimal was only successful last week in Gstaad with Dominic Stricker). The home win in Geneva in 2017, since then Stan has 16 titles. The success against Sonego already means his first final since autumn 2019 - at that time Wawrinka lost the Antwerp final against Andy Murray.
