Shortly before things get really serious again for the first time in Australia at the beginning of 2022, the ATP is giving away the awards for the past season this week. On Tuesday, Mackenzie McDonald was able to look forward to an award, having been named "Comeback Player of the Year" by the men's organization.
The American underwent an operation on his right hamstring in June 2019 and only started 2021 at number 194 in the world ranking list. Thanks to a final at the ATP 500 tournament in Washington, McDonald reached his previous career high of 54th place last season.
"Because of the coronavirus, the comeback was a big challenge for me because it was so difficult to climb the rankings. I was in a strange position because I had no points from 2019. So it was honestly an uphill battle to really To gain a foothold and get into the Top 100 ", McDonald, who prevailed in the fight for the award against Thanasi Kokkinakis, Andy Murray and Jack Sock, was quoted on the ATP website.
Another award was presented on Tuesday with the "Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award". This went to dual specialist Marcus Daniell, who helps people in need with his organization High Impact Athletes.More prizes will be awarded during the week .
