Rafael Nadal and the Mutua Madrid Open - a success story continues

Rafael Nadal was able to stretch the trophy into the sky five times in his glorious career at the Mutua Madrid Open, most recently the clay court king triumphed in 2017 when Nadal disenchanted Dominic Thiem in the final of the ATP Masters 1000 event. Although the Mallorcan’s title number six has not been successful since then, Nadal will still have enough chances to triumph again in the Spanish capital - at least from the point of view of the organizers.

The ATP Masters 1000 event will stay in Madrid until 2030, as the organizers announced on Friday on social media. Much to the delight of Rafael Nadal, who said at the event: "I think we are privileged. There are many places in the world that would pay a lot of money for such a tournament, so we have to appreciate it, take care of it and be satisfied, "said the 20-time Grand Slam winner. On the occasion of the announcements, the construction of another stadium in the Caja Magica was announced. The arena should offer space for around 10,000 visitors.

Nadal sees the city of Madrid as an important factor

A not insignificant part of the success of this event, according to the Mallorcan, is due to the hosting city: "The city's contribution is crucial when it comes to organizing a tournament of this category in the country." Of course, this commitment would also pay off for the city, Nadal is convinced: "It is true that the city is certainly making efforts to make this possible, but the returning promotional and economic benefit is greater than the contribution because the city's sponsorship is so great is great. This year, Rafael Nadal, who competed in the first round against his touted heir to the throne Carlos Alcaraz, ended up in the quarter-finals of the Mutua Madrid Open. There the Spaniard failed because of the eventual winner Alexander Zverev. The 2022 edition of the clay court classic will take place from April 28th to May 9th. There the current world number six should have recovered from the foot injury that forced the Mallorcan to end the season prematurely.
