Matteo Berrettini will open his season at the ATP Cup in Perth. At the side of Fabio Fognini, the 23-year-old will represent his colors against Russia, the USA and Norway. First, Italy will play on 3 January against the Russian selection.

After that, Berrettini will go to the Australian Open in Melbourne. At the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, the world ranking night has no points to defend - Berrettini failed in 2019 in the first round on the eventual semi-finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Hardly any points to defend

After that, the Italian will compete at the ATP 250 tournament in Buenos Aires and the following week at the ATP 500 event in Rio the Janerio. Berrettini will probably be the biggest competitor of Dominic Thiem, who will also play in the two South American events.

This is what Berrettini will be up to at the next ATP 500 event in Acapulco. The hard court tournament in Mexico will be the starting point for a hard court triple, which also includes the ATP 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami. In both tournaments of the Sunshine Doubles the 23-year-old had to face first-round defeats in 2019 - a further improvement in the world ranking list seems more than likely.
