Whenever a lot revolves around the admission of Novak Djokovic to tournaments, Rafael Nadal's injury or Carlos Alcaraz's comeback, it's easy to forget: Daniil Medvedev is probably the most in-form tennis player in the world at the moment. After his tournament victory last week in Rotterdam, he is in a final again. This time at the 250cc tournament in Doha. In the semifinals, the 27-year-old beat Félix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 7-6 (9-7). For a long time it looked like a very clear thing for Medvedev, who was already a break in the second round. The Canadian was able to get the break back and it went into the tie-break. There Medvedev showed the better nerves and got the tie-break with 9:7.
In the final, Medvedev, who is again only traveling with coach Gilles Cervara in the desert, meets former world number one Andy Murray. So the final is also a duel between the former top ranked players in the world. Murray had to fend off several match points in his semifinal against Jiri Lehecka.
It was easier for his opponent Medvedev, who undoubtedly left less strength on the way to the final and will therefore also be the favorite in the match against the Scot. Both players start on Saturday at 4 p.m.
