Lucas Miedler replaces Christopher Kas on Friday evening

The tennis year 2020 was short for Lucas Miedler, but not uninteresting: Above all, the last two active weeks were tough: First Miedler trained with the Austrian Davis Cup team in Premstätten before the match against Uruguay, then set out on the Way to South Africa to serve at the ATP Challenger tournament in Potchefstroom. There the Lower Austrian won in round one against local hero Vaughn Hunter, but then had to surrender to the French Hugo Grenier.

The tournament in South Africa was not finished, Lucas Miedler is back in Tulln. And is a permanent guest at "Kasi live" (daily from 6 p.m. in our Instagram account "tennisnetnews"). Kas and Miedler know each other well: The German veteran acts as team manager of the TC Großhesselohe in the German tennis Bundesliga, Miedler is also part of the squad like Philipp Kohlschreiber, Jeremy Chardy or Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Lucas Miedler - "Jannik Sinner pulled me off three times"

On Friday, Miedler will now host “Kasi Live”. How he wanted to put it on, he described in conversation with tennisnet.

tennisnet : Daily appearances at Kasi Live, now even taking over the show. Are there any role models when it comes to moderation?

Lucas Miedler : My style is more the relaxed one. Many say that I come very much after my father. He has a lot of funny ideas, and you often wonder where they come from. But my father is very popular with all tennis colleagues. I often have the feeling that they are more happy about him than me when they see us at a tournament. Otherwise there are two: I think "Wetten, dass ..?" And Thomas Gottschalk, that is legendary. And what I really like to watch is "Who wants to be a millionaire?" With Günther Jauch. If he has a few candidates who don't like him so much, Jauch does it very, very well.

tennisnet : Which guests have you been most impressed with at "Kasi live" so far?

Miedler : The conversation with Sascha Bajin was very interesting because you once saw the perspective of a women coach. Nico Massu was world class, very personable. Also the story with the rackets - Max Wimmer and his colleague explained that really well.

tennisnet : What is the plan for Friday evening? First of all: Who were you out of luck with?

Miedler : I wanted to see that it became German for the first time. Not because I don't speak English, but I'm more comfortable at the premiere. I get on really well with Dustin Brown, but I couldn't persuade him. Matthias Bachinger also canceled me. Toni Lottner also helped me with the Bencic Belinda, but Belinda told me that she would like to talk to me on the phone, but not live. And then I tried Jannik Sinner because he pulled me off three times last year.

tennisnet : And he didn't want to either?

Miedler : Jannik would have been cool because I lost to him in the first round in Bergamo, where he won his first challenger. And I watched over the year how it went. Because at the beginning it was said: How can you lose against him, against such a young Italian with no results? And after a week I was able to say: Well, yes, other people have now lost too, it can't be that bad. I played three times, had set balls three times, lost the first set in the tie-break three times. Jannik has now told me that it would be a problem that he cannot speak High German. I said: don't give a shit, we'll get it done. But Jannik has already done so much social media this week that he didn't feel like it.

tennisnet : So who can we look forward to on Friday evening?

Miedler : First of all, Dominik Schulz. Because I find it interesting that people learn what is behind the organization of an ATP Challenger tournament. Domi was a very good player himself. Then I have Sebastian Ofner with me. I have known the Ofi for 15 years, we have experienced everything in ups and downs, including personally. And finally, I have Jurij Rodionov. He has canceled the Kasi, but he is with me. That gives a plus point. Jurij is very reserved and polite. But if he feels comfortable, then he will bloom.

tennisnet : What strikes you: The Austrian and German players seem to get along extremely well with each other on the tour. Because of rivalry ...

Miedler: At least that's always been the case with me. So many Austrians weren't at the youth tournaments, so the German players were my friends, like Hannes Wagner or Johannes Härteis. I got on very well with the Maxi Marterer and even played doubles together. I've also known Antonia Lottner for many years now. It was always fun. And that runs through the entire tennis circus. There are no German-Austrian rivalries. I don't know why that is so high in other sports.
