This is Fognini's third time in his career in a Masters semi-final, and for the second time since 2013 he has been able to do so in Monaco. In head-to-head with Coric, he put 2-0. Rafael Nadal is waiting for the Italian on Saturday, whom he has beaten twice on sand.

Fognini got off to a bad start against Coric and was quickly 3-0 down. Another loss to serve to 1: 5 ensured clear conditions, the Croatian got the first set after 27 minutes.

In the second round, Coric also managed a quick break to 1: 0, but he should only do one game after 2: 0. Fognini found the game better and on his first serve while his opponent slackened. The second round went 6: 3 to number 18 in the world.

The third set developed into an entertaining one, where Fognini was able to ward off all four break chances against himself, three of them in the last game of the match, while using both of his two. After exactly two hours, Fognini was the last semi-finalist.

Nadal had previously prevailed against Guido Pella from Argentina with 7: 6 (1), 6: 3. The second semi-final will be contested by Daniil Medvedev and Dusan Lajovic.
