Stan Wawrinka and Monte Carlo - that's a very special combination. Because in the Principality, the now 36-year-old Swiss won his only ATP Masters 1000 title so far in 2014. In the final, by the way, against his compatriot Roger Federer, who is still missing the championship in Monte Carlo. And probably will not fly again. A Da Capo for Wawrinka also seems very unlikely.

But: The three-time major champion received a wildcard for the 2022 edition beginning on April 10. A worthy spot for the comeback of Wawrinka, who lost his last match of the tour to Lloyd Harris in Doha just over a year ago.

Djokovic is also coming back

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will also be there. Like Wawrinka, the Frenchman is probably in the very last phase of his career - and was given a fixed place in the tableau by the organizers. Tsonga now also has 36 Lenze. And is only ranked 215th in the ATP world rankings.

Novak Djokovic will start with other ambitions. The Serb, who will take over the top of the ATP world rankings again from Monday, had to do without the US tour in Indian Wells and Miami. And now he will certainly come back to the tournament with a lot of anger in his stomach.
