For Andrea Gaudenzi, the sentences may be a bit shorter

With the launch of the # NextGen Masters in Milan, ATP has created a platform to try out potential changes that could eventually become part of the regular men's tour. The abolition of the markup, for example, the waiver of linesman or the mode to play sets only up to four. Especially the latter could gain momentum from next year - then Andrea Gaudenzi will take over the chairmanship of the ATP. And Thomas Muster's former stable mate does not see himself as an iron traditionalist.

"Of course you have to respect the essence of our sport," said Gaudenzi a few days ago in an interview. "But what I really like is the phrases that are played until four. The most important moments are 4: 4 or 5: 5. So we could play best-of-five matches up to four games per set instead of six best-of-three matches. "

No match tiebreak at Grand Slams

Whether this will meet with the professionals on positive echo, remains to be seen. Of the pure playing time of a match would not change much, also the matches of the #NextGen showed. But the stakes would be much higher at the beginning of a sentence, notorious slow starters were even more into the trouble after this mode.

On the other hand, the introduction of the Match-Tiebreaks instead of the third set in the double competitions was not received with great enthusiasm. Meanwhile, the players have gotten used to it. Also to the fact that in Grand Slam tournaments the decision set is still played out. And it is expected that Andrea Gaudenzi will not shake the four majors. Especially since these are also the responsibility of the ITF.
