First of all: Nicola Pietrangeli could of course have formulated his assessments of Matteo Berrettini more gallantly. Instead, however, the Italian tennis legend caused a stir with a snotty statement about the strong Roman: "It seems to me that he would devote himself more to advertising than to tennis," said the now 89-year-old in the Italian media. The Italian has won two Grand Slam titles in his career.

In particular, the footwork of the Roman was a thorn in Pietrangeli's side, as he specified: "He's a good guy, but he's a bit like Panatta was: great from the waist up, but the legs...", the 89- Year-old criticized in Italian media. The Italian, however, likes Berrettini's colleagues Sinner and Musetti. The former is currently the best Italian on the ATP tour anyway. And the best ever? For Pietrangeli, it's clearly Novak Djokovic - "even if everyone doesn't like him."

Kyrgios expresses himself via Twitter

A few hours later, none other than Nick Kyrgios called on the scene with one statement in particular - namely that about Berrettini's handling of the advertising market. The Australian, who is known to be quite offensive when it comes to making additional sources of income as a tennis professional, initially sees nothing wrong with this: "But isn't it his decision to set priorities?"

"I can assure you that he earns more money off the field than Sinner," emphasized Kyrgios. "And for some of us, money is important," said the man from Canberra, who is currently suffering from an injury that made it impossible to start at the Australian Open. Kyrgios plans to return to the ATP Tour at the Sunshine Double in Indian Wells and Miami. There could also be a meeting with Matteo Berrettini.
