Winning a Grand Slam tournament in singles, which he has clearly made clear over the past twelve months, is Nick Kyrgios ' big goal. In this year's Wimbledon final, the Australian was only two sets away from his premiere triumph, but in the end Novak Djokovic once again had the better end for himself.

The world number 22 already flirted with the classic lawn and also at the subsequent US Open. always with an early resignation. The prerequisite for this: a win in a major tournament. On the fringes of the World Tennis League in Dubai, the 27-year-old confirmed his longing to say goodbye to tennis soon.

Kyrgios: "Would probably resign"

"Hopefully I can win a Grand Slam tournament and just retire," said Kyrgios, half joking at first. In an interview with Eurosport , the Australian was a bit more serious. Should he triumph at a major event, "I would - honestly - probably resign," said Kyrgios.

Kyrgios immediately gave the reasons for his considerations: "Especially when you come from Australia, you're just on the road so much, so much time away from family, so much time away from friends. You just miss milestones in the family, man just doesn't have a normal life anymore."

Kyrgios sees Australians at a disadvantage

In that regard, as an Australian, he has a particularly difficult time, Kyrgios continued: "It's easy for a European or American player to lose or win a tournament. Then you take a five-hour flight home and spend a week there before the tournament next tournament."

"As an Australian, on the other hand, you travel in blocks for four to seven months. To be honest, I don't think that's healthy," said Kyrgios. After all: At the beginning of the coming season, the 27-year-old can stay in his home country. Kyrgios will open the season at the United Cup in Sydney before the Australian Open in Melbourne is due on January 16th. And that might be the last tournament in Nick Kyrgios' career.
