"I woke up one day in Shanghai, it was four in the afternoon and I was still in bed with the curtains closed. I didn't want to see the daylight," said Kyrgios, who is notorious for his temperamental behavior.

He was "in a lonely, dark place". "I felt like nobody was interested in me as a person. Everyone just saw me as a tennis player and wanted to use me. I lost the joy of the game and got out of control." The constant pressure drove him into depression.

Most recently, Kyrgios was the voice of reason in the fight against the corona pandemic in the tennis business. He decided not to participate in the US Open and the French Open. "I love being at home with my family and girlfriend and working with my foundation," he said. Kyrgios works for disadvantaged children.

Kyrgios played his last tournament in Acapulco. Before that, he failed in the round of 16 of the Australian Open to Rafael Nadal. In the current ATP world rankings, Nick Kyrgios is ranked 45th.
