After the US Open final defeat against Daniil Medvedev, Novak Djokovic was quiet. Only the cancellation of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells could be heard from the industry leader's camp, whereupon rumors spread about an early season end for the 34-year-old.
As the well-known Serbian journalist Saša Ozmo announced on the short message service Twitter, Djokovic, who will probably finish first in the world rankings in 2021 after Medvedev's knockout loss in the round of 16 in Indian Wells , will return to the court this season. When and where, however, is currently not yet clear, as the 20-time Grand Slam winner has not yet fixed his tournament calendar.
It can be assumed that Djokovic will in any case take part in the ATP Finals in Turin. In addition, from the current perspective, participation in the last ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the year in Paris-Bercy seems likely.
But Austrian tennis fans also have reason to hope: Djokovic could start at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna via wildcard, and an appearance at the Davis Cup in Innsbruck is also possible, given Djokovic's close ties to his home country. For the organizers, after the cancellation of numerous stars, it would probably be more than just a small compensation.
