The "Novak Djokovic Foundation" supports children and adolescents in Serbia and takes care of the construction of kindergartens and schools. Early childhood education is one of the cornerstones.
And the reigning Wimbledon and US Open champion can clearly see how much he cares about the foundation. "I've been so lucky in my life. Others don't - they need our help," said Djokovic.
His wife Jelena acts as chair of the "NDF". In a campaign that ran until January 8, part of the "Season of Giving Campaign" ( https://fundraise.novakdjokovicfoundation.org/campaign/lets-shape-their-future-together/c158120 ), over 85,000 had already been reached by the end of Saturday Donated dollars.
The money is to be used to build preschools in Djokovic's home. The 31-year-old is himself the father of a son and a daughter.
"According to the current status, not even every second child in Serbia has the opportunity to attend preschool. Fortunately, we, the adults, have the power to change their lives and shape their future for the better," said Djokovic in a statement .
In 2017, the "NDF" invested $ 751,802 alone. So far, a total of 41 kindergartens have been reconstructed or even rebuilt using the money. Around 22,000 children benefited from the donations from the foundation.
At Harvard University, the Foundation also supports PhD students in their research on how to improve the quality of development and education in early childhood worldwide.
