Novak Djokovic will not officially start in Montreal

Novak Djokovic will now be officially absent from the next big highlight on the ATP tour, the Masters 1000 event in Montreal. This became known on Thursday evening Central European Time after the Serb had officially canceled his start in Canada.

The missing COVID-19 vaccination for the 21-time Grand Slam winner has the first concrete impact on the start of the North American swing of the ATP tour. Due to the entry regulations currently in force, the Serb stand will not be able to take part in any tournaments - and will therefore also miss the US Open.

Djokovic is missing, Murray with wildcard

While the team of the newly crowned Wimbledon champions has recently been quite pessimistic about the 35-year-old starting at the fourth major event of the year, Djokovic himself is still hoping for a short-term change in entry regulations.

At the same time as the Serb canceled the ATP Masters 1000 event in Montreal, the wildcards for the hard court classic were also announced: In addition to Andy Murray and David Goffin, the two Canadians Vasek Pospisil and Alxis Galarneau can look forward to a place in the main draw .
