Ofner and Grabher miss the main draw in Madrid

After Jurij Rodionov qualified for a Masters tournament for the first time, Sebastian Ofner (ATP No. 130) was unable to follow his compatriot. In the final round, the Styrian was beaten by his opponent Roman Safiullin 4:6, 6:7 after 1:18 hours of play despite a big fight. Julia Grabher also missed out on making the main draw at the combined event.

Sebastian Ofner was able to approach today's game with cautious optimism. Even though there hasn't been an encounter between the two at tour level, the man from Graz was able to win the only two matches at future and challenger level against his opponent Roman Safiullin.

In the balanced opening set, however, it was Safiullin who was able to seize the only chance to break and thus win the first round. In the second set, too, there should be no loss of service at first. In the ninth game of the second act, the Russian made the break to make it 5: 4 and then served to win the match. Ofner fought back again and postponed the decision of the second round to the tie-break. There the 26-year-old Ofner had to bow 4:7.

Grabher is defeated by Yastremska

Julia Grabher from Vorarlberg, who was seeded second in qualifying for the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid, also missed out on making the main draw. After 84 minutes, the 26-year-old lost 6-1, 6-2 to Dayana Yastremska from Ukraine.
