That is bitter. Not only for Novak Djokovic, but also for his partner Nina Stojanovic. Because the world number one had to withdraw due to a shoulder injury and could not compete in the small final in mixed doubles in Tokyo. So the industry leader Ashleigh Barty got a medal after all. Djokovic had lost the game for third place in the singles against the Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in three sets.
The mixed doubles final will be a purely Russian affair: Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Andrey Rublev will meet Elena Vesnina and Aslan Karatsev.
