Despite his injury, Carlos Alcaraz was present at the ATP Finals in Turin

Carlos Alcaraz ended 2022 as the world number one, but will by no means be satisfied with the end of the past season. Understandable, as the Spaniard had to let both the ATP Finals in Turin and the Davis Cup finals in Málaga pass him without having achieved anything due to a muscle tear in the left abdominal wall.

Just after the inconvenient injury was announced, experts spoke of a convalescence that lasted about six weeks - and this estimate should also be about right.

The start of 2023 is still uncertain

Because "Caritos" recently reported to his fans on Twitter with a health update: "On the home stretch of recovery! Today we are conducting magnetic resonance and stress tests."

The 19-year-old Spaniard won two 500 events (Rio de Janeiro, Barcelona), two Masters 1000 tournaments (Miami, Madrid) and a Grand Slam tournament with the US Open last season. Although, as mentioned, he did not compete in the ATP year-end tournament, the young man from the Murcia region is 800 points ahead of compatriot Rafael Nadal in the world rankings.

Exactly how Alcaraz will start in 2023 has not yet been fixed. Juan Carlos Ferrero's protégé is not in the Spanish squad for the United Cup mixed team competition.
