The first set was evenly balanced for a long time, but thanks to a break Pavic / Soares had the lead 7: 5 in the end. The second break to 4: 2 in the second set then made the preliminary decision. After exactly one and a half hours, the unset doubles converted their first match point.

Pavic (27) and Soares (38) have already been successful in Grand Slam tournaments in the past. Both won the Australian Open once with different partners, and old master Soares also celebrated his first double triumph at the US Open in 2016. Koolhof / Mektic have to wait for their first victory in the men's doubles after the defeat.

The six seeded German duo Kevin Krawietz / Andreas Mies (Coburg / Cologne) had already said goodbye in the second round.

Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva are in the double final for women. The two will meet Nicole Melichar and Yifan Xu on Friday at 6 p.m. CEST.
