Grand Slam record champion Rafael Nadal has to postpone his comeback for the time being. The 36-year-old Spaniard canceled his participation in the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal next week. The time to prepare for the US Open (from August 29th) is getting tighter again for the third in the world rankings.

"Four days ago I started serving training again and felt a little uncomfortable after training yesterday," Nadal said on Twitter: "It was still the same today." It is not yet clear whether the Spaniard will contest the event in Cincinnati (August 14th to 21st) before the US Open.

Nadal suffered an abdominal muscle injury during the Wimbledon lawn classic and was unable to compete against Australian Nick Kyrgios in the semifinals. The Spaniard's problems shouldn't be too bad, however, as he wants to continue training on Mallorca "without being forced".

Novak Djokovic is also not present in Montreal. The Wimbledon winner is not allowed to enter Canada due to his lack of vaccination against the coronavirus . According to the current status, he will not be able to compete in New York either.
