Rafael Nadal optimistic after Mallorca training week

There was a lot of media attention on Friday at the Mallorca Country Club in Santa Ponça, where Rafael Nadal completed an intensive training program on grass this week. After that, the fourth in the world rankings was confident that he would be able to compete in the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon from June 27th.

Rafael Nadal feels ready for Wimbledon

Nadal recently struggled with pain in his left foot en route to his 14th title win at the French Open in Paris.

“I've been training here this week and it's been very positive. Of course the foot feels different, but I take that as a positive. So I plan to travel to London next Monday and play two more games before Wimbledon (Hurlingham invitational tournament, ed.). I will follow my normal procedure to prepare for Wimbledon as much as possible. This is how it currently looks. I can't say what will happen in a few days. Maybe the situation will change again, but today I'm very positive and happy with how I was able to train this week," said Nadal.

Nadal trains with Lopez

“I have now increased the training workload a little every day. The week was very positive. Today I trained with Feli (Feliciano Lopez, note), it's always fun. We played a set, that's it," added Nadal, who also gave excellent marks to the grass pitches at the Mallorca Country Club, where the Mallorca Championships, worth 951,745 euros, will be held from tomorrow Saturday.

“Organizing a lawn event in Mallorca is not easy. The conditions here are not perfect for a grass pitch, but the courts are very, very good. It's difficult to find an excellent grass pitch outside of Wimbledon, but the way I see it, the courts here are at an extremely high level," said the 22-time Grand Slam tournament winner.
