The business with historical outfits, rackets, balls from various sports is especially big in the USA. Most of the time, the proceeds from sales or auctions go to private individuals or companies who use it to establish their business model. Not so with the auction that was held by Christie's auction house in London over the past few weeks: initially live and online from June 23 to July 14.

There were memorabilia from Roger Federer's career up for auction. And the interest was enormous: In total, memorabilia worth 4.7 million US dollars were sold. The amount goes directly to the Roger Federer Foundation, which has set itself the goal of promoting the education of underprivileged children, especially in Africa.

Federer himself was very satisfied in an initial reaction. "I am overwhelmed by the generosity and enthusiasm from all over the world," said the 20-time Grand Slam champion in a broadcast. “We started collecting pieces that were with me on the court because we thought that maybe one day we could do something useful with them. I am very grateful to see that our decision will make a profound difference in the lives of so many children. "
