Roger Federer - "I always skied too fast"

Roger Federer enjoyed the World Cup weekend in Lenzerheide as a guest. But the Maestro was denied one thing: a home win for the Swiss women.

At the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing in 2022, Switzerland won big in alpine skiing: the Swiss brought home five gold medals, something that the self-confessed Olympic fan (and Olympic champion in doubles from 2008 alongside Stan Wawrinka) certainly has. Roger Federer noted with pleasure.

Federer was able to see three winners from Beijing live and up close in Lenzerheide at the weekend: Corinne Suter and Lara Gut-Behrami in Super G on Saturday, Michelle Gisin, who was able to defend her gold medal in the combined at the Olympics, also on Saturday Sunday in the giant slalom.

The fact that Federer visits skiing events in his home country is nothing new. In 2017, for example, in St. Moritz, the now 40-year-old was in the finish area of Beat Feuz's downhill triumph.

Federer - ski break since 2008

Of course, cosmopolitan Roger Federer didn't just take care of the Swiss. The 20-time major winner was also available to the Americans for a snapshot. Federer has at least one common advertising partner with Mikaela Shiffrin.

Federer himself has taken a 14-year ski break of his own accord. "I always drove too fast," Federer told Swiss TV on Saturday. So in 2008 he decided to stop skiing until further notice. At that time, however, he assumed that his tennis career would last a maximum of five years. Roger Federer's extraordinary career is not over yet - he wants to return to the tour by autumn at the latest.
