Before you take out the handkerchiefs: Roger Federer is fine. Especially since his estimated income between June 2018 and May 2019 was around $ 93.4 million . A graphic by the financial magazine Forbes shows how "late" Federer was only one of the big earners in the entire sport. /

From 1990 to 2019, development was unwound here in a progress graph. And that's amusing: At the beginning of the 1990s, boxers Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield dominated with their high combat fees, over the years basketball star Michael Jordan clearly set himself apart from golf star Tiger Woods and Formula 1 champ Michael Schumacher from the top were allowed to greet. Tennis default? Andre Agassi repeatedly reached the top ten, guest visits there also paid Jim Courier and Monica Seles. Crazy: Pete Sampras, the dominator of the 1990s, never made it into the top ten.

Federer in the top 10 from 2008

It also took Roger Federer a while. It wasn't until 2008 that he emerged among the top earners - after actually spending his most successful time in 2004, 2006 and 2007 with three Grand Slam tournament victories each. What shows: It takes time to establish itself as a "brand" - especially since the most money in tennis comes from advertising contracts (in contrast to boxing, where it is the utopian high combat bonuses).

Federer should also be well positioned in terms of finances in the coming years. In 2018, he signed a 10-year contract with the Japanese clothing manufacturer Uniqlo, which should bring him 300 million euros. The other noble notes of the Swiss - such as Mercedes, Jura, Rolex - do the rest. Federer also recently joined the Swiss shoe company On as a partner. "I am excited to be able to work with a young Swiss company that is on the move," Federer told NZZ on Sunday about his commitment .
