Roger Federer reveals: "I see no reason to train"

Roger Federer is currently a good distance from tennis and has said that he has not held a racket in his hand for quite some time. "I am not training at the moment because I see no reason for it," said the 38-year-old Swiss in an online conversation with his former competitor Gustavo Kuerten (Brazil).

"I am satisfied with my physical condition, but it will be a long time before we come back on the tour. Should there finally be a normal tournament day again," I have a goal in mind that I can work for and me motivated, "said Federer.

He had never been home for more than five weeks at a time since his knee surgery in 2016. "It is important to recover well now. When we are close to playing tournaments again and I have a goal again, I will be super motivated."

He would like to top up his record number of 20 titles in Grand Slam tournaments so far, but he cannot imagine ghost tournaments without spectators: "Especially in big tournaments it would be very difficult for me to play in front of empty ranks waiting for the right moment to return when at least a third or half of the stadium can be filled. "

Because of the corona virus, the ATP tennis tour is at least until the end of July. Two of Federer's major goals this year, Wimbledon and the Olympic Games in Tokyo, also had to be canceled. While other top players such as Dominic Thiem, Novak Djokovic or Grigor Dimitrow want to gather game practice in regional tournaments that are not sanctioned by the associations, Federer obviously has little to gain from this idea.
